James 1:5-8 (NIV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
Have you ever been on a journey and found that you were hopelessly lost? I know that I have and I hear that I am not the only person who has ever found himself in that position. It seems that many of us get lost at some time or another in our life but most of us don’t really like to admit it.
Men it seems especially don’t want to ask for directions or guidance! It’s just not our preference to own up to being confused, or out of control, and to have to ask someone else for help.
But when we’re lost as to the will of God, that should be a different matter entirely. Psalm 25:9 teaches us that God guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way. And our scripture today says that if we are lacking any wisdom at all, we should go to God and ask Him to find the answers to all that we are confused about.
If we ask God and believe that He will answer us, then He will give us more wisdom and understanding than we will ever need.
How do we get the answers to the questions in life that confuse us? How do we find our way when we are lost?
Well, the answer is simple, if we ask the right person – God – with the right spirit – humble submissiveness – we will be shown the way to which we should go.
It’s funny, isn’t it? All we have to do is “Just Ask!”
